Community Theatre is alive and well in Alabama!
From the sunny Gulf shores to the tip-top of the state, community theatre artists practice their craft in front of appreciative audiences as they all experience the joy of live theatre. ACT has identified over 65 active groups in the state and is always on the lookout for more. Actors, stage directors, musical directors, choreographers, and musicians collaborate with scenic, lighting, sound, costume, and property artists — often just for the love of theatre – producing critically acclaimed productions from musicals to dramas, and everything in between.
The highlight of ACT’s CT Division is an annual festival. Last year, the Actors Theatre of Trussville, Community Actors Studio Theatre (Anniston), Wetumpka Depot Players, and Theatre 98 of Fairhope competed in Montevallo to represent Alabama at the regional level—the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). Winning groups brought honor on our state by taking home two prestigious awards at SETC: Best Actress (Theatre 98) and Outstanding Choreography (ACTA).
This year’s festival will be October 24-25, 2009 at the Pell City Center. We have slots for six productions so consider joining The Montevallo Main Street Players (“Art”), Wetumpka Depot Players (“Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindegarten”), and Pell City Players (“Dearly Beloved”) at this year’s community theatre festival.
To compete or simply attend and enjoy great community theatre productions and workshops from across your state, check out the ACTFest ’10 page and contact me—I’d love to see you there!
